The Eastern Docklands are located at the northeast side of the city center of Amsterdam, west of the lake Markermeer and on the southern side of the Y-lake.
On the western side of the Eastern Docklands the passengers terminal for cruiseships is located at appr. 150 meters from the Central Railway station.
The ring road A10,
the main motorway around Amsterdam is located at
the
eastern end of the area.
The main office
parks of Amsterdam in the
south, southeast and southwest are located near the ring road A10 or on
one of the connecting motorways leading to Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg
and France.
Schiphol
Airport can be
reached in ca. 20 minutes by car or train.
The main road in
the Eastern Docklands, the Piet Hein kade is about
5
kilometers long, connecting the Central Station to the ringroad A10.
Travelling time is about 5 - 10 minutes by car.
Several city buses
are connecting the neighborhood
to the Central Station and to various other parts of town.
Tram nr. 10 connects the central area of the Eastern Docklands to the Museum Quarter (Rijkmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Concertgebouw), the City Zoo Artis and the shopping, market- and nightlife area around Albert Cuyp market, Leidseplein and the picturesque Jordaan quarter.
The IJ-tram (tram
26), the
fast tram line
from Central Station to IJburg islands is crossing
the Eastern Docklands.
Travelling time from
Central Station to Eastern Docklands central area is about 5 - 10
minutes.
Travelling time from the central area of the Eastern Docklands to
IJburg islands and Amsterdam IJ-lake beach is about 10 minutes.
Tram 16 connects the
Eastern Docklands to VU university and hospital, crossing the old
center of Amsterdam.
